Adding Assets

When adding an asset you need to define the customer site where it is located and also the type of asset it is. Therefore, it is necessary to add the sites and asset types you need before you create an asset:

• Adding a customer site
• Adding an asset type
• Adding an asset

Adding a customer site

1. Click on the Assets icon in the Navigation panel to open the Sites page.
2. Click on Add Site at the top right of the screen to open the Create Site page.
3. Enter a Name for this customer site.
4. From the Customer dropdown select the customer this site belongs to.
5. In the Location field, enter the site location e.g. address
6. Click on the Create button to add the site.

Adding an asset type

Asset Types act as templates from which to base new assets. When you choose an asset type when adding an asset, the information stored for that asset type is automatically inherited by the asset.

1. Click on the Assets icon in the Navigation panel to open the Sites page.
2. At the top right of the page, click on View Asset-types to open the Asset Types page. All existing asset types are listed.
3. In the Create Asset Type panel at the bottom of the page, enter a Name for this asset type.
4. Click on the Create button and the asset type is added to the list.
5. To add more fields to your asset type, click on Manage Attributes to open the Edit Asset Type page - and add fields as required.
6. Click Finish to save your changes and return to the Asset Types page.

Adding an asset

1. Click on the Assets icon in the Navigation panel to open the Sites page.
2. At the top right of the page, click on the Add Asset button to open the Create Asset page. Alternatively, select New asset from the New dropdown at the top of the Service Desk pages.
3. Enter the following asset details:
   • Name - Name of the asset
   • Cost - For billing purposes (if applicable)
   • Location information - Where the device is located e.g. Meeting room 1 (Service Desk remembers all locations entered and displays those in a dropdown)
   • Type - Select from the types available e.g. printer, server
   • Site - Select from the list of customers and corresponding sites
   • Notes - Any notes you want to add
